I.T Security, The Benefits and Risks
Due to the upward demand use of IT products and services, it has become mandatory that all the involved stakeholders, both service providers and consumers, to take necessary action to protect their digital Data, Asserts and financial resources from theft, being ranked one of the most digitally vulnerable States, in the whole global village.
Zimbabwe needs to educate her people on some of the ways to protect themselves, and Eyetro Digital came across one of IT Security personnel Mr. Benson Sanyanga who gave us some of the following tips
1. For those using ADSL broadband routers, please remove default login credentials and switch off Wireless Protected Set-up (WPS) switch it on only when you want to connect a new device.
These routers are easy to attack when they have default set-up credentials anyone can gain access to your network and steal your bandwidth, Data, and or sensitive business information.
2. Avoid giving your ATM card/Phone to unknown people who are illegal and bogus money changers. Some people can ask for your PIN and clone your ATM card and steal your hard-earned money.
3. Do Not perform online transactions over public networks, such as internet Cafe s, if you do. Make sure you log out of all your sessions, and that the browser history has been cleared before leaving the Cafe, someone can easily take over from where you left and access your accounts.
4. Ensure that you have more than one layer of security on your accounts, be it social or business, two step Verification. It increases the level of Security, and avoid using passwords that can be guessed such as your date of birth, anniversary, use passwords with a mix of numbers and letters.
5.Do not use patterns to secure your smartphones, rather use a password, especially with a mixture of numbers and letters, its hard if not impossible to guess. e.g. Eyetro#Digital0.
