Making cheap calls with VoIP
VOIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol, or in more common terms phone service over the Internet.
VoIP is a technology that allows you to make phone calls using your Broadband connection instead of your regular phone service.
With voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telephone solutions, you can be assured of clear ‘on-net’ voice calls.VoIP allows you to take a standard analogue telephone signal and turn it into a digital signal that is transmitted over the Internet.
In Zimbabwe by plugging any standard telephone into a special device called an Analogue Telephone Adapter (ATA)/ ADSL Splitter one can use an internet connection to make telephone calls.
There are two major reasons to use VOIP
- Lower Cost
- Increased functionality
This is how the VoIP connections will be like:
VOIP Connection Using an ATA/ADSL Splitter
VOIP Connection Using an IP Phone
IP Phone —– Ethernet —– Router —- Internet —- VOIP Service Provider
Voice Over IP can also be found on Skype, Whatsapp calls, etc …
