Zimbabwe’s state-owned Mobile Network Operator, Netone seem to be struggling to keep up with the current trends, amid indications that its One fusion platform is failing dismally. Launched in 1996, Netone stayed in the game for most years with the widest network in the country.
As of last year, the STATE-OWNED Mobile Network Operator (MNO) had active 4,868,897 subscribers and 51,440 active mobile money subscribers making it to be ranked the second biggest Mobile Network Provider in the country. The MNO seem to be struggling in keeping up with the current trends though last year the company introduced a special service monthly bundle product, One Fusion, which made them fetch more subscribers because of what it offered.
The OneFusion platform, potential clients were required to purchase monthly bundles of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $150 and $200. Recently the OneFusion Bundle failed to operate like it used to, and there was an outcry which brought a lot of queries to its subscribers, but some users saying that the service is back they are now able to play videos, on Facebook and other social media, and this has been confirmed through various posts acknowledging the positive development.
The World in One company also launched an Mobile Money Service called OneMoney which is really making noise in the market as of last year OneMoney gained a tremendous 291.6% growth between the 2nd and 3rd quarter released by the Telecoms regulator, as if it was not enough last week OneMoney introduced Dubbed 8Time Promotion where NetOne subscribers being eligible for the discounts through transactions made using OneMoney. A customer needs to buy at least $1 prepaid airtime to earn an immediate discount of 8% on the purchase and at least a $5 Zesa token to earn a 1,5% discount.
The Dubbed 8Time Promotion which started on February 8 and runs till April 30, 2018. Speaking to News Day, The CEO of Netone, Brian Mutandiro is optimistic that the package is going to change the face of the company, he also said that “OneMoney allows customers to transact and check their balances from their mobile handset and has no monthly charges”. Netone also revised its all-time bundle/product Dollar-A-Day, this bundle is mainly focused on Netone’s users, where it offers 20 minutes On-Net calls and 20 SMSs valid for 24 hours and 2 hours On-Net calls between 21:59hrs and 23:59hrs on the day of recharge the bundle doesn’t include any data Netone said that the bundle is mainly to promote its Loyal Clients but why didn’t they give its customers data since everyone these days rely on Data.
Recently the OneFusion Bundle failed to operate like it used to, leading to a massive outcry by subscribers who thought have been duped into joining the NetOne family. There were mixed feelings regarding the matter with others threatening to abandon the network completely.The outcry by subscribers could have pushed Netone to act swiftly since some users are now saying the service is back.Netone subscribers are now saying they are now able to play videos on Facebook and other social media platforms.This was confirmed through various posts by users acknowledging the positive development.
