WhatsApp issues ban on third party applications
WhatsApp has taken a drastic measure of eliminating all unsupported third-party applications such as WhatsApp Plus and GBWhatsApp (Modded Apps) which are altered versions which violate WhatsApp terms and conditions.
WhatsApp has already started banning users that are using third party applications such as GB WhatsApp, Yo WhatsApp and WhatsApp Plus on their Android devices, a move they believe will help people return to the original WhatsApp version which had become unpopular to the upsurge in modded WhatsApp versions which offered users additional modified features.
Recently the instant messenger App released a message on its website which read, ” if you received an in-app message stating your account is “Temporarily banned” this means that you are likely using an unsupported version of WhatsApp instead of the official WhatsApp. If this is the case, you must download the official app to continue using WhatsApp”.
WhatsApp further stated that Popular unsupported applications such as WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp are altered versions developed by third parties and violate WhatsApp terms of service hence Whats App does not support these third party apps whose security practices they cannot validate.
Other versions of WhatsApp such as GBWhatsApp became popular with users due to several additional features that are not available on the original WhatsApp application.
Perturbed by this and in an endeavor to fill this gap, developers started creating more modded versions with additional features that went above and beyond to make sure that users get additional features that are not available on the original WhatsApp.
However, according to WhatsApp, these modded apps poses security threats to WhatsApp and to its users as well in terms of privacy terms and conditions of service.
Some threats caused by using Modded apps are that these apps can install adware on your device, even the pirated website that you use and can install malware on your device.
The ban on these fake Apps by WhatsApp is likely to deprive users of the priviledge of enjoying these additional features which had become common with users and its indeed quite a major blow on user’s faces
