Statistics in the POTRAZ Abridged Q3 report of 2019 indicate that mobile telecommunications companies’ service delivery in the year 2019 has been poor and companies have been competing for customers.
It is a known fact that the efficiency and strength of any company are measured by its ability to properly deliver normal services to its clients but most mobile network companies have struggled to fulfill this, save for NetOne, which has managed to show perseverance and growth over the year as revealed in the report.
A sharp decline in a number of active mobile subscriptions has been experienced across the board of mobile network operators as revealed by POTRAZ with Econet and Telecel gaining 3.4% and 0.4% respectively with NetOne, on the other hand, losing market share by 3.4%.
On the other hand, as far as voice traffic market share was relate, Econet experienced a decline of 1.3% whilst NetOne and Telecel experienced voice traffic market share gains of 1% and 0.3% respectively.
OneMoney, which Is NetOne’s mobile financial arm experienced a growth of 29.2% from 241 466, 312, 223 which is a clear indication of remarkable growth in active mobile money subscriptions. One Money gained 0.9% according to the Active Mobile money Market, whereas Telecash’s market share remained stagnant at 0.8% whilst Ecocash experienced a 0.9% loss in market shares.
However, NetOne’s active mobile subscriptions further grew in the second quarter of 2019 according to the Abridged second quarterly report released by POTRAZ, with 6.1% from 2, 593, 444 to 2,752, 458. This shows a marginal increase in the growth of mobile subscriptions experienced by NetOne over the period, with Telecel being the only mobile telecommunications company to experience a decline in mobile subscriptions.
The report revealed that Econet and Telecel lost market share by 0.3 and 0.6% respectively whilst NetOne experienced a Market share gain of 0.9%. On the other hand, Econet lost revenue market share by 1.1 % on the mobile revenue front, whilst NetOne experienced a 1.1% gain on the mobile market front and Telecel Market share remained stagnant.
There was an overall growth across all operators with respect to active mobile money subscriptions but still, OneMoney kept on the lead with a 7.3% growth. One Money gained 0.1% whereas EcoCash lost 0.1% whilst Telecash’s market share remained unchanged at 0.8% according to the mobile money market share.
Furthermore, the third quarterly POTRAZ report shows that OneMoney continued on the lead with a 27% growth from 335, 132 to 428, 529 active mobile subscriptions. Such gain is a clear indication that OneMoney recorded the greatest increase in active mobile money subscriptions whilst Ecocash and Telecash remained stagnant. NetOne’s active mobile subscriptions as a network grew by 10.6% from 2, 752, 458 to 3, 042, 930, which shows a total gain of 1.4 percent across all Zimbabwean mobile networks market share.
