A Teenager Hits 100 Million Followers On TikTok

TikTok is a social media platform where users create and share short video clips, imitating others as well as following others and being followed, viewing and liking other users posts. People also subscribe to be notified whenever someone posts anything on TikTok.

Charli D’Amelio, from Norwalk, Connecticut, hits the 100million subscribers after spend only 1 and half year using TikTok. She is only 16 years old, and she posts creative videos which attract the followers on TikTok leading to her position as a TikTok star, having millions of subscribers at a tender age. She gained more subscribers during the lockdown since most people had time on social media platforms than before.


In the first episode of her family’s reality series, Dinner with the D’Amelios, subscribers claimed D’Amelio acted disrespectfully toward the personal chef who prepared the dinner. In protest, more than 600,000 followers swiftly unfollowed. D’Amelio also was known by followers on YouTube to post here creative videoclips and sometimes she made them in episodes so that people could subscribe and follow her posts.

Her profile both on TikTok and outside the platform has rocketed in the last year. She became the first person to hit 50 million subscribers in April 2020. Meanwhile, she doesn’t depend on one profile but she has a lot of social media accounts on different social media platforms like YouTube and Twitter helping her to be recognized by her followers. D’Amelio has collaborated with global brands on fashion and make-up lines, and also had a drink named after her at Dunkin’ Donuts, this contributed much to her popularity.

D’Amelio found herself at the centre of another controversy in early 2020, she was falsely credited with creating the “Renegade” dance trend – something which came from Jalaiah Harmon, a black teenager from Atlanta, Georgia. She also claimed she had never created the dance, the confusion sparked claims that TikTok’s algorithm showed unintentional racial bias.
