The largest Mobile Network Operator in Zimbabwe Econet Wireless has sent messages to its active subscribers announcing that it will be reviewing its voice bundle and bundle of joy prices with the effect from 25 November 2020.
“Dear Valued Customer, Please take note; Bundle of Joy, Voice bundles prices will be reviewed effectively 25 November 2020.”, reads the statement sent to the active subscribers of Econet. Currently, daily 2 minutes are pegged at ZWL$5, while 4 minutes cost ZWL$10.For a weekly bundle, subscribers are being charged ZWL$85 for 30 minutes.
Econet reintroduced the bundles of joy sometime in August 2020 which allows it, active subscribers, to make on-net calls after purchasing voice bundles affordable at very minimal rates. Bundles are quite cheaper rather than making calls using content balance, and also comparing that daily 2 minutes bundle which is pegged at ZWL$5 with ZWL$6 charged per minute using direct airtime.
According to the trading results for 2020 half year ended 31 August 2020 review revealed by Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authorities of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), the Econet Voice traffic increased by 7.9%, data consumption was up 63% whilst SMS traffic was up 41.6% compared to the previous half-year period. Meanwhile, the changes in voice, data and SMS traffic is a result of the increase also in tariffs.
However, due to economic instability in Zimbabwe, the MNO is being forced to review the prices of their products and services from time to time to sustain their businesses. The reason is that the operators are demanding foreign currency for infrastructure, software upgrades, and network support services as well as operating software licence fees.
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe announced the reviewing its voice bundle and the bundle of joy prices, with the effect from 25 November 2020, hopefully, they will not double the prices of NetOne which is now considered as the cheapest telecom in terms of voice bundle prices and its ‘Dollar-A-Day’ bundle which is the same as Econet’s ‘Bundle of Joy’.
