Strive Masiyiwa, the Founder of Econet, the biggest telecom company in Zimbabwe was elected in the board of Netflix, as one of the Directors. Therefore people want to know why the Netflix Board selected Masiyiwa on that position in their board.

The Netflix Co-founder, Reed Hasting and the Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, mentioned in their press release why they choose Masiyiwa in their Board among other billionaires in Africa, “ His entrepreneurship and vision in building business across Africa and beyond will bring valuable insights and experience to our board as we work to improve and serve more all around the world.” This was the motive for the selection of Masiyiwa into the Netflix Board.

Masiyiwa had also remarked his new position, saying that he is looking forward to working with the board and all stakeholders to continue its (Netflix) traditions of innovation and growth, since Netflix is the best and top company, bringing great entertainment from anywhere in the world in the world. Perhaps Masiyiwa will provide business strategies that will help the Netflix grow bigger since he once founded the Kwese TV, which was shut down in 2018.

With the experience in leadership for many organizations in Africa and abroad, he serves as the a director for Unilever, a global advisory board member of the United States Holocaust Museum’s Committee on Conscience, to mention a few. This might also be the reason why he was selected by Netflix Company to join its board as a director.

Masiyiwa was elected by the Netflix Company to join its board as a director not because of financial status as a billionaire but because of the leadership experience, and his vision of building businesses in Africa and beyond, and also with his experience as the founder of Kwese TV, this will add more value for him to suit the new position.
