Integrating WhatsApp into Facebook Messenger retard

FILE - This Feb. 19, 2014, file photo, shows WhatsApp and Facebook app icons on a smartphone in New York. Global messaging service WhatsApp says it will start sharing the phone numbers of its users with Facebook, its parent company. That means WhatsApp users could soon start seeing more targeted ads on Facebook, although not on the messaging service itself. (AP Photo/Patrick Sison, File)

We have all given away our information to Facebook and over the years they have collected a lot of data on you. It is of vital importance that this information stays private and secure. For that reason, here is a simple guide on how you can maintain your privacy on the platform.

The tech giants have a lot of information on you, from where you live and visit your phone number,  where you work and who your family members are. So the first step to protecting your privacy is to delete the information you don’t want Facebook and other people to know. On your news feed, tap on your picture and edit your public information.

This is the 21st century and it is time to do away with predictable passwords, Use a strong password.  A strong password has at least 12 characters including Capital letters, lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. It should not be a dictionary word, a name, date of birth and a combination of names. You can alternatively create strong passwords using password generators for free on websites such as http://strongpasswordgenerator.com and http://passwordgenerator.net. Go to Facebooks settings page and change your password.

Switch off facial recognition. The feature compares your profile picture or post pictures and videos you were tagged in to recognize whether you were in a new picture or video on the platform. Through this feature, Facebook will know where you were, who you were with and the events you attended as soon as someone uploads a picture you are in. Face recognition reduces your ability to control what you share hence it is wise to turn it off

Using Facebook to sign in and log onto websites, apps and games are quick and convenient. However, you should reconsider because by doing so those sites, games and apps will get access to your data on Facebook. Alternatively, use your Google account to do so or you can simply create new logins and passwords for each app and site. This simple guide will help you to further keep your privacy safe but for me, the best way of protecting your private information is by keeping it to yourself.
