Even with the covid 19 pandemic causing havoc across the globe, at the beginning of each year Samsung unveils a slew of their S series phones to kickstart the year with cool and advanced technology. This year they unpacked the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra.
The Ultra model is a monster of a smartphone and by far better among the three in terms of specifications and pricing. Its certainly in the same league as the iPhone 12 Pro Max which is another beast of a device with the smoothest performance you can find on any Apple smartphone. We are going to find out the best between the heavyweights, so here is how each device performs head to head.
Both the Galaxy S21 and Iphone12 Pro Max have amazing noticeable design updates. The Galaxy S21 Ultra has an edge to edge display with a discreet punch-hole selfie camera giving it a very delicate look that does not disturb your view. It also has a newly revamped rear camera bump which sticks outside less than that of its predecessor the Galaxy S20, making it look more like part of the whole device.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max came with flattened square edges around the edges of its frame similar to that of the iPhone 5 and a thinner notch at the top of the display which I think should just be removed considering it makes the phone look old and takes screen space. The Ultra also supports a 120Hz refresh rate, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max only goes up to 60Hz. Perhaps it would have been a tie if it wasn’t for this Galaxy S21 Ultras adaptive refresh rate display technology which adjusts depending on your screen activity to help conserve battery and also delivering a better gaming experience. The Ultra wins this one.
Iphones are most famous for their camera and they never disappoint. The iPhone 12 Pro Max’s camera helps you take high-quality pictures and videos even if you are in a low or bright environment, near or far from the subject. The Galaxy S21 Ultra does have an impressive 108 mp on its rear camera and 40mp on the front offering a better zooming experience. However, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a more powerful camera.
In terms of storage, the Samsung Galaxy S21 has a whooping 512 Gigabytes of internal storage matching that of the iPhone Pro Max accompanied by 16 Gigabytes of RAM whilst the iPhone Pro Max has 6 Gigabytes. However, iPhones need less RAM meaning will not have any trouble playing demanding games and running multiple tasks. Both have no memory card slot. As such, neither have an edge over the other in terms of storage.
As for battery life, the S21 Ultra comes with a larger 5000mAh cell while the iPhone Pro Max has a 3687mAh which will provide over a day of heavy usage. The Galaxy S21 Ultra will last into the second day but the experience is pretty much the same.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra is the first S series phone to support S pen functionality which provides a convenient way of taking notes, marking up documents and drawing. It is a bonus for those who use their phone for work but most users will probably not use this feature so it doesn’t make much of a difference.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max does not have S pen functionality but like the S21 it does support 5G networks providing users with the fastest internet speeds possible.
Overall the iPhone Pro Max proved to be the better smartphone with a better camera, better updates and while also matching the just released galaxy S21 Ultra in terms of storage, performance, 5G support and battery life. The Galaxy S21 Ultra does have a more impressive design and looks more attractive and new.
