Global tech giants Xiaomi have revolutionised wireless charging with the introduction of Mi Air Charge Technology – 5w remote charging.
Mi air charge technology will enable users to charge their electronic devices without any cables or wireless charging stands. This means that you will be to charge your device while walking around or even in the next room.
The Chinese based multinational electronics company claims the 5w remote charge will not be affected by obstacles such as walls however Xiaomi did not specify the range the system will cover saying it will only operate within a radius of several meters. The company also claims it will charge several devices at a time up to 5w.
They explained how the system works in a blog post
“The core technology of Xiaomi’s remote charging lies in space positioning and energy transmission. Xiaomi’s self-developed isolated charging pile has five phase interference antennas built-in which can accurately detect the location of the smartphone. A phase control array composed of 144 antennas transmits millimetre-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming.
On the smartphone side, Xiaomi has also developed a miniaturized antenna array with built-in “beacon antenna” and “receiving antenna array”. Beacon antenna broadcasts position information with low power consumption. The receiving antenna array composed of 14 antennas converts the millimetre wave signal emitted by the charging pile into electric energy through the rectifier circuit, to turn the sci-fi charging experience into reality.”
The global tech leaders further gave us an insight into their tech advances saying future living rooms will be fully wireless.
Xiaomi did not give us a release date for the Mi air charge system but one thing is certain the technology is going to be expensive and will not be coming to Africa anytime soon.
