- ZESA employees are illegally generating electricity tokens,
- One employee arrested with his Agent,
- Certain remedies to eliminate fraud within the organisation.
Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Company (ZESA) is fighting down an internal crisis, since some employees are working in secret, illegally generating electricity tokens.
According to a report, some ZESA employees have been manipulating the system, generating and selling electricity tokens to customers without declaring the proceeds to the power utility company. It is believed that some of the workers were fudging the system and to allow their agents to sell tokens and not deferring the money to ZESA.
The Sunday News confirmed that last week the police arrested one of the fraudsters alongside with his Agent who was illegally generating electricity tokens and selling them to customers without the knowledge of the power utility company. The employee who was arrested, Darlington Chiputura (41) who works in Harare Headquarters of ZESA together with his agent Joseph Wagusiwa(36) from Kadoma.
Furthermore, it is alleged that some of the employees would manipulate the ZESA token system to create a parallel system that allows them to steal from the company. Therefore ZESA Holdings should take profound measures to eradicate fraud in the company, for instance, upgrading its database to a certain high level so that no one can access it without full clearance. In the same line, they can also improve the company surveillance along with frequent audit, with certain measures, they can manage corruption and internal fraud.
