- Apple releases first public beta of its new operating systems,
- New Privacy feature,
- How to access the new Update.
Apple first released iOS 14 in Sept 2020 ahead of the iPhone 12 launch and since then, new versions of the operating system have been released each month with new features and updates.
Last week Apple released the first public beta of its next round of software updates which allows users to test run the new features before the official release. This includes IOS 14.5 and iPad 14.5. So what are the new features coming to iPhone users?
App tracking transparency feature
Perhaps the most anticipated feature on the new IOS is the app tracking transparency capability after it caused an exchange of words between Apple company CEO Tim Cook and Mark Zuckerburg (Facebook CEO). In this version, iPhone will now require applications such as Facebook to request permission from users (via a prompt popup) when they want to track your activities outside their app including other apps or websites. This feature will give users more control over their privacy.
Face ID with Mask On
For the first time, iPhone users will be able to unlock their smartphone while wearing a mask. The feature will work for hand in hand with the apple watch( $169 on Amazon ). The device will use your apple watch to unlock when face ID detects a face mask on its user. The watch must be on your wrist, unlocked and protected by a passcode. However, to use this feature you will also need to update to watchOS 7.4 which is not yet available to the public.
5G Global dual-sim Support
iPhone 12 has dual sim capabilities but both connections are limited to 4G LTE except in China where one sim will support 5G. In this version, 5G will now be supported on the data connection when in dual sim mode.
Another noteworthy change is the ability to set third-party apps as the default option for opening certain files or links.
iPhone users will now able to choose their preferred app for music playback, accessing emails, and browsing the web, among other actions.
IOS 14.5 will also come with a dedicated Search tab in the News app, enhanced sorting for Reminders by various categories, print option added to Reminders, AirPlay2 support for Apple Fitness+, redesigned guides in Maps app and Major Podcast app redesign.
