.How to share data

Telone has finally introduced a data rollover service to its active subscribers from 5 March 2021, four (4) days after introducing data sharing capabilities.

The internet service provider, (ISP) is looking to gain revenue market share with these improvements after losing 4.4% in the third quarter of 2020 to 21.5% from its 25.9% market share in the previous quarter (Q2’2020). At that time, Liquid Telecom benefited the most from Telone’s losses gaining 6.8% in the 3rd quarter to reach 66.1% market share from 59.3% in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

DATA ROLLOVER
It may have been a long wait for Telone users after Zol introduced the service back in 2019. With this latest offering, Telone allows users to utilize unused data 30 days after the expiring date, meaning if you fail to utilize your package in the first 30 or 31 days you can now crossover to the next month. So basically, it will now take two months for data to expire.

DATA SHARING
Telone is the first to introduce this ability ahead of its competitor’s Zol and Dandemutande. Data sharing as its name suggests, allows Telone users to share data among themselves. This means that you can buy a package and then share it with friends and family or even employees as you like.

The data sharing capability can be useful in several situations and the first being when your package is about to expire and you know you cannot exhaust it. You can simply send gigabytes or megabytes to fellow Telone users or alternatively sell it to them at a giveaway price. However, with the newly introduced data rollover, it would be a difficult task for you to not exhaust your package

Data gets cheaper per GB which means the more you buy the cheaper it gets. so if you cannot afford to buy more data on your own you can team up with neighbours friends or workmates to buy a bigger package and then share it accordingly

Sharing data can also be useful to businesses whose employees work from. You buy the highest package and divide it among your employees instead of paying for each employee’s data which more expensive.

Before we delve into how you can share data, you should know that it only applies to capped packages because if you were allowed to share unlimited data to an unlimited number of users Telone would realize huge losses.

How to share data with Telone

  • Log in to any of TelOne’s Self-service platforms including the online portal.
  • Enter the recipient’s TelOne phone number and the amount of data you want to transfer.
  • To confirm the transfer a One Time Pin (OTP) will be sent to your registered number i.e. the mobile number associated with your account in TelOne’s system.
  • Enter the OTP to confirm that you want to send data.
  • Once you enter the OTP the recipient’s data balance will be updated with the new balance and your data will be deducted with the corresponding amount.
  • You should note that the expiry date of the data will not change nor will even when you transfer it.

It would be an exciting improvement to see local mobile operators such as Econet, Netone, and Telecel introduces data sharing and data rollover exclusively on their monthly home wifi bundles.
