- Ad tracking coming to an end
- What are third party cookies
- How to allow or block cookies today
Google will soon stop Ad companies from tracking your internet activities and collecting your devices IP address but that does not mean it’s done tracking you itself.
Other browsers including Apple’s Safari and Mozilla’s Firefox, already block third-party cookies by default because they let companies profile you through your internet activities and serve you relevant advertisements. Rather than going all out on the tracking, Google came up with a more private solution to the cookies termed “Privacy Sandbox”.
Googles Privacy Sandbox Tech
The company plans on using the browser to group together internet users who have similar browsing patterns. In turn, businesses can serve relevant ads to these like-minded people, rather than tracking users individually. The privacy sandbox initiative is surely a move in the right direction when it comes to privacy of individuals.
What are Cookies
Cookies are files created by websites you visit. They make your online experience easier by saving browsing information. With cookies, sites can keep you signed in, remember your site preferences, Passwords and give you locally relevant content.
There are two types of cookies:
First-party cookies are created by the site you visit and the site is shown in the address bar for example eyetrodigital.com. While third-party cookies are created by other sites that own some of the content, like ads or images, that you see on the webpage you visit. Third-party cookies are used by ad companies to track you as you go around the internet, building a profile of you and your interests based on the sites you visit and they use that data to send you targeted ads, which powers part of its massive ad business.
