- How to unlock iPhone with Apple Watch
Apple finally released their iOS 14.5 update to the public last week adding the ability to unlock iPhone with Apple Watch, support for AirTag, app tracking transparency and two new voices for Siri.
Major Changes And New Features
Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch
Today, we are constantly wearing our masks to protect from the coronavirus and face ID can not recognize the face when it’s covered up but with iOS 14.5 and the latest version of the Apple Watch watchOS7.4, you can unlock your iPhone with the facemask as long as you are
wearing your watch.
To use the feature go to your settings> Face ID and Passcode and enable to unlock with the Apple Watch option. When face ID recognizes you are wearing a mask, the device will instantly unlock as long as
you have your watch on your wrist.
Support for AirTag
Last week, Apple also released their controversial item tracking device AirTag, which can be attached to keys bags and almost everything. The device will work hand in hand with the Find My app (Where you can also track down other Apple devices) on iOS 14.5. To use the new AirTag ($29) on your iPhone, update your device.
New Siri Voices
Apple will no longer default Siri to the usual female voice. Gender stereotypes among voice assistants such as Siri have been a controversial issue but no more as Apple now has four alternative male and female voices. iOS 14.5 users will be prompted to select one voice during set up, and you can always change it in your settings. The update also gives Siri the capability to call local emergency services. Just say the command “Hey Siri, call an emergency”, that you will get three seconds to cancel your command. In Addition, the virtual assistant is now able to announce incoming calls and messages.
App tracking transparency
The new feature simply puts users in control of their privacy. The update will now require applications that want to track your activities (which they used to put together your personality and what you like to send you essential adverts) outside their application to ask for permission(via a pop-up).
This feature has caused controversy with Facebook who greatly relies on Ads for revenue generation but the app is not blocking the practice but giving more control to the user.
New shortcut actions
Also, worth mentioning is Apple’s new shortcut actions. If you were once an android user then you are familiar with the new feature. With the new iOS 14.5, you can now move hold and drag your apps, change their position and put them in a selected folder.
Apple also made changes to individual apps
Apple Music will now be able to share lyrics using massages, Facebook and Instagram stories. Podcasts show pages have been redesigned to make it easier to start listening, an option to save and download episodes, and automatically adding to the library7 for quick access. The new top charts and popular categories also help users discover new shows.
The update also comes with dual sim support which enables 5G connectivity on iPhone 12 models. The ability to stream audio and video content from apple fitness+ workouts to airplay 2-enabled TVs and devices.
