Zim Covid-19 Mobile Application Review

  • Zimbabwe now has a Covid-19 App
  • The App provides information on the number of people who have been vaccinated and testing centers
  • Why the App should be zero-rated

The government of Zimbabwe through the ministry of health and child Care recently launched their ZimCovid Safe App to help disseminate official news and reduce call traffic to health institutions.

Sponsored by Revive, Baker’s Inn and Chicken Inn the government through the ministry of health and child care has developed the Zim Covid-19 App and here is all you need to know about it.

The app features live and official Covid-19 statistics provided by the ministry of health and child care as well as a Covid-19 news feed to help users stay updated on the latest news and updates.

It also provides information on the number of people who have been vaccinated and testing centers. The ZimCovid Safe app is very much basic and can be easily navigated by anyone who can operate a smartphone.

However, for the application to have a greater impact and be of any service to the people, there is a need for the ministry to go all the way and partner with local mobile network operators in zero-rating the App for the benefit of those who do not have WiFi and cannot afford data.

Zero-rated applications allow users to access services for free without the need to have data, all users do is turn on their data network.

Another minus for me is the applications inability to provide additional languages, at least Ndebele and Shona or develop different applications that use different languages but Overall the app serves its purpose of informing users about Covid-19 though it seems as it still under development because some of the features are not working by the time we tested the App.

For a start its quite good though a lot of improvements are required including international data and international COVID-19 news

Great app. Not all vaccination centres are represented on the map though
